Sunglasses are not just a summer item. In winter, as the sun gets low, it can often blind you as you are driving. I guess that we have all experienced the slight panic as we come over a hill and suddenly can see absolutely nothing due to the low sun being in our eyes, whether it be as dawn breaks, or as the sun sets. In summer, of course, we are, most of us, already at home when the sun is low on the horizon. It seems that the sun is more yellow in summer, too, instead of the bright white that it seems to be in winter months.
I was once walking along the dockside of the Marina at Brighton, in the UK, and they had just laid new concrete. It was actually giving me an impossible task, it was so bright. That was in summer of course. But it reminded me of reading once about snow-blindness. It actually gave me a headache, but even when I closed my eyes, I had to fully close them before getting relief. Now, in winter, snow is a fact of life for many of us, and a good pair of sunglasses can make the difference between enjoyment, and actual pain.
